The Indianapolis Fire Department will be conducting a dive school with a limited number of positions available starting April 12th, 2021 with a graduation date to be determined. The school consists of 2 weeks on and 1 week off for a total of 6 weeks of actual school. Students will be detailed during the two weeks and will not return to station duty during the week and there will be no overtime paid.
Attached to this email are the medical history form (click here) and the NFPA 1670 swim test scoring sheet (click here). Any interested applicants should read through the medical history questionnaire and the explanations of contraindications and absolute contraindications for diving. Anyone with an absolute contraindication cannot participate in scuba diving activities. If you have any questions regarding the medical history form you can contact Captain Jerry Richert, your private physician or Public Safety Medical. The NFPA 1670 swim test is pass/fail and the scoring requirements are on the attachment. The following information will cover the prerequisites, process phases and scoring considerations.
Course Dates:
- Phase I: April 12 – 23, 2021
- Phase II: May 3 – 14, 2021
- Phase III: May 24 – June 4, 2021
Prerequisites:
- IFD firefighter in good standing.
- Completed probationary period prior to first day of class.
Process Phases: Testing dates TBD
- Complete form below with intent to enter process by 1600 hrs. Monday January 18th, 2021.
- NFPA 1670 Swim test (scored)
- 25-meter under water swim (scored)
- Regulator breathing under water (pass/fail)
- Interview (scored)
- Dive Physical completed by Public Safety Medical
Scoring Considerations:
- Overall finish in the process phase
- Currently assigned at station 7 or 14
- Seniority
